How to Replace Your Swing Set Seats

Follow this simple guide to learn how to replace your swing set seats quickly and easily. Swing sets require maintenance if you want to keep them looking their best. It is also important to stay on top of maintenance to keep your swing set safe. Seats are a common part to replace on a swing set as they wear out easily from use.
First: Choose the right new seats
Swing set seats made from a hard wood like cedar or redwood are the most durable. These also resist insects and water. The ideal width is eight inches and the ideal depth is two inches.
Second: Cut the planks
Measure the old seats, and cut your new planks so they are the same size. You want the chains and ropes to fit correctly.
Third: Finish the planks
Sand each of the new seats with fine sandpaper to bring about a smooth finish. If you like the stained look, apply a thin coat. Allow it to dry completely prior to moving on to the next step.
Fourth: Attach the seats to the ropes or chains
Check that the ropes or swing set chains are in good condition. If not, replace them rather than waiting until later and then having to remove the seats again. Determine the correct size of bolts, and attach the seats to the chain brackets. Drill holes in the corresponding sizes and attach the chains to the bolts. Tie the ropes firmly beneath the new seat and seal them with a quick torch so they do not fray.
