Anchoring Your Swing Set

When you are getting ready to install your new swing set, you should compare and take into account all methods and options. Anchoring your swing set to the ground is an important part of safely setting up your swing set. You can use either stakes or concrete to anchor your set, and each method has advantages and disadvantages.
The stake method
Anchor stakes are used to anchor a swing set safely to the ground - as long as the legs of the set have a hole near the bottom. Some legs do not have a hole, so drilling one is an option if you want to use this method. After setting up your swing set, hammer anchor stakes into the ground next to all of the legs. Anchor stakes have a hook at the top that is used to attach rope or other materials around the swing set legs. Cover the stakes with dirt as much as possible after connecting them to the swing set. This is to prevent children from hurting themselves on the stakes.
The concrete method
The concrete method is a little more time consuming compared to the stake method. It requires you to first set up your swing set and then mark with spray paint the ground where each leg rests. You then move the swing set away, and dig holes where each legs go when it is in place. Dig the holes approximately six inches deep. Then place a brick or gravel into the holes before putting the swing set back on top. Mix the concrete and pour it into each hole. The concrete may take up to a week to properly cure, so do not use the swing set until it is fully dry. While it is a little more work, this method lasts longer and is more durable.
No matter the size or type, you should always anchor a swing set for safety purposes. Anchoring stabilizes the play equipment and prevents injuries from occurring.
